What is it?
This is a hardware kit designed for installing sliding folding doors (also known as bi-fold doors). These are doors made of two or more panels that fold up against each other like an accordion as they slide open, saving space compared to a traditional swinging door.
How It Works
The system uses a combination of pivots, rollers, hinges, and a track to enable the unique movement of the doors.
-
Fixed End (Pivots): One side of the door assembly is anchored to the door frame and floor using pivot pins (shown on the left side of the component photo and the diagram). These allow the first door panel to swing open like a regular door but keep it fixed in one spot.
-
Sliding End (Roller): The other end of the door assembly is supported by a hanging roller (the 4-wheeled carriage shown in the top left of the photo). This roller sits inside a metal track installed at the top of the doorway.
-
Folding Action (Hinges): The door panels are connected to each other with hinges. As you push the doors open, the roller slides along the track, and the hinges allow the panels to fold inward until they are stacked neatly to one side.
-
Guidance: A bottom guide system (a pin on the door running in a channel on the floor) ensures the doors move smoothly in a straight line and don’t swing back and forth.
Key Components Shown
-
Hanging Roller: The main 4-wheeled carriage that carries the weight of the sliding part of the doors and moves them along the top track.
-
Pivots (Top & Bottom): Spring-loaded pins that act as the anchor points for the fixed side of the door, allowing it to rotate.
-
Hinge: Connects the door panels, enabling them to fold.
-
Guides: Various parts to keep the doors aligned. The diagram shows a bottom guide pin.
-
Track (in diagrams): The overhead rail (labeled with dimensions 34mm x 32.25mm) that the roller runs inside.
